About the NW Suburbs for Obama group
NW Suburbs for Obama is an all-volunteer, grassroots group of citizens actively working to elect Barack Obama President of the United States. Our group was founded with the hope of what a strong community can achieve.
Since February 2007, the NW Suburbs for Obama has grown to over 400 members. Barack Obama often says “change doesn’t happen from the top-down, it happens from the bottom-up,” and we couldn’t agree more. We have organized countless events to both promote Senator Obama’s campaign, as well as the broader message of change that he embodies.
We have worked to spread Barack Obama’s message through meetings, fundraisers, community service events and parades. We even built our own float!
We’ve pounded the pavement with thousands of footsteps as we went door to door telling our neighbors about why we support Senator Obama.
We didn’t stop at our local neighborhoods; we put thousands of miles on our cars traveling to Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Minnesota, Missouri, Wisconsin, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana, and Kentucky!
Weekly phone banks give our group an opportunity to reach even more states, and we all - as volunteers - dedicate countless hours to dialing future voters.
Barack Obama’s public service has inspired us to do our own community service as well, including sending care-packs to our troops, collecting books for a grade school affected by Hurricane Katrina, even welcoming a newly-arrived refugee family to America with furnishings and food for their first apartment.
Our group thrives because of its members, and we hope you’ll join us. We have seen the kind of change Barack Obama speaks of first hand, and while the pundits and politicians question whether it's real or even possible, we know it has already begun. We have come together and dedicated ourselves to making this country a better place. There is potential for real change in America, it's happening right now in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago.
Now is the time to get involved, to be a part of something bigger than ourselves.
